I object to “compassionate” in entitlement reforms? Compassion is essential and necessary for human relationships, not for handling other peoples money. Social Security is a true entitlement because there’s essentially a contract whereby I pay all my working life, do my part, and then entitled to my social security check when I retire. It’s not because of compassion, rather we need to fix (reform) social security because it’s broken. Otherwise there’s not going to be money in the pot for today’s young generation. Those afraid of school choice cannot be simply categorized by party affilliation. It’s giving the opposition to school choice too much credit to say it’s only because they’re Democrat’s. Teachers who oppose it understand from the media and unions that it’s only to their disadvantage, they don’t care anything about their careers or the positive effect on classroom experience. Except for teachers, administrators and the NEA, there is no one else afraid of school choice.
